Are You a Pinner?
I always pin my veils. I know that there are ladies who prefer not to, but, I just find it easier. No matter how well the veil drapes, if I don't pin it I find myself worrying more about my veil than about the mass.
I know there are a few of you out there who feel the same way. In honor of "pinners"...here is a new creation. (Smiles)
More colors and designs are on the way. Message us with special requests!
Pax and Blessings!

This Week's Work at Liturgical Time: 7-7-12
Here at Liturgical Time, we've working on a few new D shaped veils, at the request of a patron.
We have lots of wonderful soft new stretch laces, and we are loving working with them.
We've also been working on some new mesh veils that are bright, light, and great for the warmer months.
I've picked up my crochet hook again, and am loving it. I'm working on a warm cowl at present. I have also been skimming If You Really Loved Me: 100 Questions on Dating, Relationships, and Sexual Purity, and deciding whether to continue my Coutship Series. I noticed after I posted this picture, that my absolute favorite rosary bracelet, from Cam's shop, is on the table!
I'm back to work, next week, which means less sewing, reading, and writing, and more providing of speech therapy. I expect next week's pictures will have a classroom shot or two!

Does Your Veil Drive You Crazy?
Veils can slip. Slippage varies someone based on the laces and trims, but many veils have some tendency to slip.
Worries about veil slippage keep me awake at night.
I know,... I need to get a life, and some sleep.
I am thinking of developing a removable comb to be included on all veils in the shop, at no extra charge....to put the slippage issue to rest. No pun intended. (Okay, after I typed it, I decided that I kind of intended it.)
Opinions anyone?
We do offer pinning loops, and the option to purchase a sewn in comb, but I would imagine that some patrons may not realize that a comb might be useful, until they begin wearing their veils. A comb that could be either used, or removed, at any time seems like a solution to me.
Any thoughts?

Headcovering eBook in the Works, and a New Veil!
Luc Viatour, Creative Commons Share Alike 3.0 |
We have news!
It has been said that the best three things about being a teacher are June, July, and August.
Being a speech pathologist, rather than a teacher, means that I only get June off...but I'm not complaining. I'm rather fond of June.
This annual break allows me time to do things I've been wanting to do all school year, like create new veils, sleep in, and give the oven a good, thorough cleaning. (Okay...I don't really want to do the oven.) Anyway, one of the things that I have been wanting to do is to write a eBook on the basics of Christian headcovering. My intent is to produce a book about the "how-to", not the "why" or "whether to" of Christian headcovering.
After all, it is not as if headcovering is common these days, at least not in Western society. Those of us who have decided to embrace it, whether during church, at prayer, or on a daily basis, may not quite know how to begin. Personally, I remember receiving my first mantilla in the mail, and, while I was excited, I was also a little confused. Which side is up? Maybe I'm the only one who had that problem, but I suspect not.
There are also the issues of easing into headcovering when one is nervous about beginning, choosing the type of headcovering that is right for you, the challenges of tying and securing, and responding to curiosity and questions from others.
So, I am on my way to addressing these issues. I hope the book will be finished and available in the Veil Shop, or, perhaps, directly from the blog, by the end of the Summer. We shall see if that is overly optimistic!
In the meantime, I would love to hear from you if you have questions, or content, that you would like to see addressed.
On the subject of being nervous about beginning to cover in church, we have created a lace veil with a traditional Christian feel to it, that is inspired by the infinity scarf. Our intent is to provide veils that can be worn as a scarf when entering church...
...and then discretely slipped up over the head when the wearer wishes to be veiled.
We chose a lace pattern reminiscent of traditional mantilla style chapel veils to maintain a "church feel" for the veil. We are calling it the Eternity veil. We hope that you like it.
I hope that your summer is going beautifully!
God Bless and Pax Christi!

New Veil with Swarovski Crystal Bead Ornamentation
We have added a new veil, embellished with Swarovski crystal beads, to the veil shop. In additional to creating a beautiful veil, the beading adds weight to the front edge, and helps keep the mantilla in place without pins.
The first has been created in black, at customer request. This veil will, however, be available in all of our veil colors including white, ivory, seashell pink, mocha chocolate, powder blue, navy blue, and forest green. Color and shape of crystal beads varies according to veil color and availability at time of purchase. Let us know what you think of this new veil. We would love to hear from you.
